ABOUT US

                                                       
Cantus is a chamber choir of around 25 singers. We usually perform one concert each term, normally at our regular venue of St Mark's Church, Barton Road, Newnham, Cambridge. Concerts are generally based on sacred pieces by British and European composers depending on the occasion.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR - DR ALAN HOWARD



Dr Alan Howard has been Musical Director of Cantus since 2015. Alan is College Lecturer and Director of Studies in Music at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and Director of Studies at Queens' College. Alan's research focuses on the music of Henry Purcell and his contemporaries in Restoration England.

  * This is the Day was written by Samuel Howard (1710-1782) for his DMus  degree. It was first performed in Cambridge in 1769, but until this               concert had not been heard since the 18th Century.
